Editorial Policy

  1. Content

  • Grapevine will not publish obscene content. This includes hate speech and other forms of discriminatory language, as well as graphic or sexual scenes.

  • Profanity will be censored so that it is implied rather than stated via the use of asterisks or something of a similar nature.

  • If deemed necessary, the editorial board will stipulate the implementation of trigger warnings before publication.

  • Content must be an original work of the student. Plagiarized work will be denied publication.

 2.  Editorial Expectations

  • The editorial board is responsible for editing original student work. Edits cannot include changes to the content or overall message of the work.

  • The editorial board has a duty to fix grammatical and spelling errors to the best of their ability.

  • The editorial board may ask the student to alter their work for clarification and readability, even if the original choices were purposeful. It is up to the student if they wish to accept these changes; however, the editorial board has the power to exclude a piece if the student is not willing to make the suggested changes.

 3.  Online Content

  • Students have the right to deny the posting of their work on any online platforms, including the Grapevine website and Instagram.

  • The editorial board will, to the best of their ability, format all online content in the way that it was originally intended.

 4.  Print Content

  • With limited space, longer pieces of work are guaranteed to be fully on the Grapevine website — unless the student forgoes that option — but not the print version of Grapevine. In the case in which the full piece cannot fit in the print version, readers can find a QR code which will lead them to a full online version.

 5.  Rejection of Pieces

  • Grapevine reserves the right to deny the publication of pieces for any reason, if deemed necessary.

  • The Grapevine editorial board cannot reject a piece for a discriminatory reason.

  • If the Grapevine editorial board does not choose to publish a piece, the student will be notified of the rejection. If the student has any questions about why their piece was denied, they can reach out to grapevinewesthigh@gmail.com
